I stopped yesterday’s blog after the morning safari, mainly because it was too long, but let me pick up the story there.
Half way around the game drive we stopped of for chocolate and biscuits, then back at the main lodge we had breakfast- we loaded up on fruit yoghurt and granola then croissant and cheese before they came to ask what we wanted cooked! We opted for eggs Benedict, but we learned our lesson because at this rate we will not be able to climb into the jeep! On the subject of food, there is lunch, afternoon tea, wine and snacks on the sundown game drive followed by a 4 course dinner on return!
Anyway, back to the animals.
Last night did not disappoint- we set out to look for lions, and we found some

They were sleeping when we found them and I really did not like the way they were looking at us when they woke up…. Our guide said we were perfectly safe as long as we stayed in the vehicle…

We also saw:

And lots of smaller beasts that I showed pics of last night. (I learned today that a 'beast' is anything larger than a goat - who knew?)
For our mid way stop we had wine and snacks as the sun was going down - it was gorgeous, and as people had gone home, there were only 4 of us. Very exclusive.
After a fab dinner and a great kip (my chest is better so thankfully Emma got some sleep too!) we were back up at 5 for this morning’s trip.
Again, there was just the 4 of us and our guide, Sim, did a fabulous job - we were looking for Elephants and Buffaloes.
We finally found the elephant herd (who knew that such a massive animal would be so hard to find!) and followed it for a while

Maybe this is why they were hard to find, they were playing hide and seek!

After the Ellie’s we went in search of another of the big 5, buffalo

These are apparently the most dangerous of the big 5 and the most likely to kill a human.

I did not know that ‘The big 5’ refers to the 5 animals that are most dangerous towards humans - I thought it meant the 5 that humans most wanted to hunt! Quite the reverse.
It was almost time for our hot chocolate break so we went up onto the ridge, passing by Gemsbok

We even saw a new baby!

Then

And as we were having our break, the Ellie’s came by - what a treat, we watched them for almost 30 minutes

The Ellie’s are in the background if you zoom in 😊
When we got back to the lodge for breakfast Emma and I were whisked away for a private breakfast in the hideaway- it was gorgeous (yes, I look rough, but I had been up since 5 am and on a game drive - there is no way to keep your hair tidy!)

but also more than a little hilarious
I am sure Matt, our wonderful Travel Agent (highly recommended, message me for his details!) has added a note to the booking that our trip is for a celebration (my 65th) but that seems to have been translated many different ways at each accommodation! We have had to ask them to split beds in all but one hotel, and I am sure they think we are a honeymoon couple hereðŸ¤ðŸ˜‚
Anyway, the private breakfast was a treat, and then we went to the SPA for more treats! I had an anti aging facial (I only look 64 now!) and Emma had a full body scrub. Tomorrow we are having massages - definitely NOT a couples massage though!
Spending time by the pool in preparation for this afternoon’s game drive - it is a hard life, but I am blessed!
By the way, I am sure you are wondering, I got another message from Audrey saying I had overplayed her part and she was not wonder woman, just happy to help - in my mind that just adds to her status as my hero even more!
