Blog 5 - the one that was not going to happen!

I had already decided not to do a blog today – we weren’t planning to do much – but here we are 😊

Today was a beach day – we made it to breakfast for the second day in a row, and made the mistake of having brekkie on the terrace – it was only 9 am and already boiling hot!  It was so hot that my coffee would not cool down enough to drink, lol.

We packed our stuff, set google maps to take us to Clifton Beach 4 and off we drove – well, I say we, actually Emma drove.  She had never driven in another country before and was terrified, but she didn’t let on, and she did a great job!

The beach was lovely

But as we are on the Atlantic side of the cape, the sea was absolutely freezing!  I had every intention of going for a swim, until I got my feet wet and had to make a hasty exit.

It was very hot at the beach, but we hired a couple of sunbeds and an umbrella that I sat under all day, but not Emma, she slapped on the cream and just enjoyed the sun – until tonight when she realised she had not put cream on her feet and ankles….enough said.

From where we parked the car, it was a steep walk downhill to get to the beach – which of course meant a steep walk uphill to get back to the car – it took me quite a while to walk it, perhaps I will take Mount Everest off my ‘to do’ list.

Bit of a sticky situation in the car park, when a chap wanted a tip for looking after our car all day – we would have tipped him if we were prepared for it – he was very cross when we only had half of what he was asking – I honestly thought Emma was going to Starsky and Hutch it out of the car park to get away, we need to get better at carrying small notes with us.

Back safely to the hotel we had a quick shower and change to go out for an early dinner – neither of us wanted a heavy meal (the two previous night’s food really filled us up) so we went back to Time Out Marketplace and I had a delicious pizza, but EJ continued the SA tradition and had a rainbow salad with donbolo (steamed bread dumplings)  – we both fancied a shandy, but although Emma went to 2 bars, neither of them served larger!  Looking round I could see that people WERE drinking larger, so perhaps something was getting lost in translation as she tried to explain what a shandy was.

That was about the limit of our excitement tonight – until we were setting off to walk the long way round to our hotel, only to find the bridge was back!  Honestly, if I did not have the photographic evidence to prove it was not there the past few nights, I would swear I had imagined it.

We have an early start tomorrow as we bid farewell to Cape Town to go to Franschhoek – I am very excited about it, there is a tram that takes you from winery to winery – and it is hop on hop off!!!  What a delight!  That being said, there may not be a blog tomorrow – it depends how many of those wineries we get to heehee.

Farewell Cape Town!
